Screening with Aluminum Insect Screening

The screening procedure is a little different for metal screening (Aluminum, Bronze or Galvanized) as opposed to fabric screening (Fiberglass or Solar Screening).

Start screening with Aluminum

 Side #1

Unroll a sufficient amount of screening to overhang the spline groove by about 1/8". Miter the corner of the screening using your tin snips.

Rolling Aluminum Screening

With your Spline Roller, begin at the corner and roll the screening only -- not with the spline -- into the spline groove. As you roll, the screening will have a tendency to pull in the direction you are rolling. To prevent this, put your free hand and arm on the fabric. Apply enough pressure to keep the screening from bunching. When the screening is rolled in on Side #1, roll the spline in on that side. Move to the opposite side -- Side #3

Trim Aluminum Screening

Side #3

Trim the screening so that it overhangs the spline groove by about 1/8". Roll that overhang into the spline groove. Use your free hand to keep the screening from bunching. Don't roll in the spline. Move to Side #2.

Side #2

Trim the screening so that it overhangs the spline groove by about 1/8". Roll that overhang into the spline groove. Now roll the Spline into side #2 and then Side #3. Move to Side #4.

Trimming Aluminum

Side #4

Trim the right side so that the aluminum screening overhangs the spline groove by about 1/8". Miter the corners. Roll the screening into the spline groove. Roll the spline into Side #4. Cut the spline at the corner. If necessary, use a flat edge screw driver to push the spline down neatly into each corner.
